Open to all women of the parish, the Holy Redeemer Catholic Women’s League has been serving the parish and community for 100 years.
The CWL is governed by a board of 24 members which meet monthly from August through May of each year. The board organizes social activities and fundraising events for the general membership. These activities are generally held once each month. Service activities of the CWL are ongoing throughout the year and are coordinated by individual board members. All women parishioners are invited to volunteer for any or all of these activities. Money raised by the social and fund-raising efforts of the CWL is allocated in May of each year to various parish programs and outreach programs. Additionally, scholarships are awarded to two parish 8th grade students entering a Catholic high school. Together the members of the CWL make a difference in our parish and in our community while developing friendships.
Some of the great work the Catholic Women’s League is providing
Parish Progressive Dinner – Sponsored by the CWL, with invitations to all parishioners. Usually held at the end of January, attendees “travel” to a cocktail/appetizer party, dinner party and dessert destination hosted in the homes of fellow parishioners.
Two Fish Frys are held during Lent and sponsored by the CWL. In addition to wonderful baked and fried cod, smoked salmon is our specialty.
Marthas & Marys provide luncheons following funerals at Holy Redeemer. Four teams regularly rotate the service, with team members providing side dishes and desserts. The CWL provides the meat entrees.
Honor Guard provides a candlelight honor guard during the entrance and recessional at the funeral Mass of any woman of the parish.
Church Cleaning is our one full-day effort to prepare the church for Easter. It is generally held on a weekday in Lent and participants are treated to a wonderful luncheon.
Altar Care provides daily service in the sacristy and sanctuary by volunteers who have weekly, biweekly or monthly duties.
CWL Activities Committee helps put on the social events throughout the year, including the CWL Fall Bash (held in October), the Lenten Morning of Reflection (held in Lent) and a spring service opportunity in April.
